November 26, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to Turkey to serve his outstanding prison sentence after an international manhunt.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that Huseyin was convicted of fraud by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier this year.
He fled Turkey shortly after the verdict to evade his 14-year, 8-month, and 10-day prison term.
INTERPOL NCB Ankara had issued a Red Notice in July 2025, requesting member countries to assist in locating and arresting the fugitive.
Acting on the alert, INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched discreet, intelligence-led operations that culminated in Huseyin’s arrest in Abuja.
“Huseyin, who was convicted for fraud, fled Turkey shortly after judgment and travelled through the Middle East into Nigeria.
“Following the completion of the necessary documentation and in collaboration with relevant international partners, the fugitive has been successfully repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence,” the statement read.
Hundeyin said the coordinated operation reflects the Police Force’s commitment to global law enforcement cooperation, adding that the fugitive attempted to mask his movements to evade capture.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and reaffirmed Nigeria’s resolve not to provide safe haven for fugitives or escaped convicts.
He said the country will continue to work with international partners to ensure justice is served across borders.
The repatriation highlights Nigeria’s active role in global policing efforts and its sustained collaboration with INTERPOL in tracking, arresting, and extraditing wanted individuals.
