May 16, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has inducted two newly acquired Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters into the Nigerian Air Force fleet to tackle the security challenges in the country.
The aircraft were inducted on Thursday in Abuja by the President, represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The two helicopters, NAF544 and NAF545, are designed to enhance the military’s air power and address the challenge of insecurity in the country.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, said the Nigerian Air Force will receive an additional 49 aircraft by 2027.
Abubakar said the NAF has received nine brand new aircraft into its inventory since 2024, comprising four T-129 attack helicopters, three King Air 360 aircraft, as well as two Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters, which are being inducted.
“In line with Mr President’s firm commitment towards Nigeria’s security, the Nigerian Air Force is poised to receive 49 more aircraft within the next two years. This includes 10 additional Agusta 109, trekker helicopters, 12 A-1 Zulu attack helicopters, 20, 4m, 346, attack and ground attack aircraft, and three CASA 295 million air lift aircraft”, he said.
