June 30, (THEWILL) — A high-level federal government delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has arrived in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, to receive the remains of the late Nigerian business magnate and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, ahead of his burial.
Dantata passed away in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, June 28, at the age of 94, following a prolonged illness.
According to a statement issued by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the delegation departed Nigeria late Sunday and arrived in the Islamic holy city in the early hours of Monday.
Members of the delegation include the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; and the Minister of State for Housing Development, Honourable Yusuf Abdullahi Ata.
Also part of the delegation are notable Islamic clerics, including Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and Khalifa Abdullahi Muhammad, Imam of the Dantata Mosque in Abuja.
They are being joined by officials from the Nigerian Consulate General in Jeddah, led by Ambassador Muazzam Ibrahim Nayaya, who has been overseeing final funeral arrangements.
The burial is scheduled to take place later on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Born on May 19, 1931, Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a prominent Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and one of the founding promoters of the Kano State Foundation—an endowment dedicated to supporting educational initiatives and empowering small-scale entrepreneurs.
His passing has drawn tributes from across the country, with leaders praising his contributions to national development, commerce, and philanthropy.
