Nigerian Singer Tems Wins Best African Music Performance Award At 2025 Grammy

February 03, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has won the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.

The award ceremony held Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, USA, saw Tems securing the award with her hit track “Love Me JeJe”.

The 2025 Grammy Awards celebrated a diverse array of talents, with notable wins across various genres.

Tems faced stiff competition in the Best African Music Performance category, edging out notable artists including Yemi Alade with “Tomorrow”, Asake and Wizkid’s collaboration “MMS”, Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay on “Sensational”, and Burna Boy’s “Higher”.

Released on April 26, 2024, “Love Me JeJe” is a modern rendition of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic. Tems’ version blends Afrobeats and R&B, showcasing her unique musical style.

THEWILL reports that the new accolade marks Tems’ second Grammy award, following her previous recognition in 2023.

She received three nominations at this year’s ceremony, bringing her career total to eight.

Tems was also nominated for Best Global Music Album for Born in the Wild and Best R&B Song for Burning.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Tems on winning the Award.

In a post Monday on X, President Tinubu said he was proud of the 29-year-old Singer and other Nigerians nominated for the awards.

“Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, ‘Love me jeje,’” the president wrote. I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!” he wrote.
