June 17, (THEWILL) – The Governing body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has elected Ambassador Abiodun Adejola, as its Chairperson.

In his speech after the election, Adejola said he will ensure that President Bola Tinubu’s policies that affect workers and employers align with global best practices.

Nigeria will occupy the ILO Governing Body Chairperson seat until June 2024

A diplomat for many years, Adejola joined Nigeria’s foreign service on October 11, 1993. He has been Nigeria’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva since February 2021, taking over from Tijjani Muhammad-Bande.

Adejola holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in international relations. He has also participated in certificate courses in diplomacy and international relations at the foreign service academy in Lagos and the UN in New York.
