March 30, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of dust haze, sunny skies, and thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday, warning residents to take precautionary measures amid changing visibility and rainfall conditions.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency noted that atmospheric conditions will vary significantly across the northern, central, and southern regions, with dust particles remaining suspended in the air in several parts of the country.
NiMet predicted that on Monday, moderate dust haze will affect parts of Kebbi and Kano States, with horizontal visibility expected to range between two and five kilometres. Other northern states are expected to experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the period.
On Tuesday, a slight dust haze is forecast over parts of Kano and Kebbi States, while other areas in the region will continue under sunny and hazy conditions. By Wednesday, the northern region is expected to maintain generally sunny and hazy weather conditions.
For the North Central region, the agency forecast moderate dust haze over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State on Monday, while other states in the zone are expected to remain sunny and hazy.
On Tuesday, sunny and hazy conditions will persist across the region, although isolated thundery activities are expected in parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening hours. Similar weather patterns are projected to continue into Wednesday.
In the southern region, NiMet projected sunny skies with intermittent cloud patches throughout the three days, alongside afternoon and evening thunderstorms in several states.
On Monday, thunderstorms with light rains are expected in Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. On Tuesday, rainfall activity is likely to extend to Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. By Wednesday, light rains and thunderstorms are forecast across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
The agency cautioned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere, urging residents, particularly those with asthma and other respiratory conditions to take necessary health precautions.
NiMet also advised motorists to exercise caution during periods of reduced visibility and rainfall, while urging airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates for safe flight operations.
Residents were further encouraged to stay updated via the agency’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng as weather conditions may change on short notice.
