May 22, (THEWILL) – The Code of Conduct Bureau has expressed deep concern that about ninety percent of political appointees in Benue State have defaulted in the declaration of their assets.
The State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau in Benue, Mr Bartholomew Anande, expressed concern at the just concluded workshop held in Makurdi to enlighten appointees of government on the need to declare their assets.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over non-compliance of both the political appointees and public office holders on assets declaration, urging them to take advantage of the enlightenment meeting to act in line with the code to avoid unpalatable consequences.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr Sam Odeh, charged his appointees to declare their assets in line with his administration’s policy of transparency.
“I charge you to take the assets declaration as an important official engagement. Also, resist the temptation not to declare your assets, because violations attract severe consequences”, the governor stated.
Governor Alia encouraged both the public and civil servants to declare their assets, warning that anyone who fails will face the wrath of the law.
On her remarks, the Secretary to the Benue State Government, Mrs Debra Serumun Aber, who noted the importance of the exercise, appealed to appointees of government to comply.
She expressed appreciation to Governor Hyacinth Alia for approving and facilitating the holding of the workshop in the state.
