December 23, (THEWILL) – The Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has dissolved the Executive Committee of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria citing tenure elongation and declining performance among other reasons.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Stanley Ogadigo, NIPR’s Director of Public Relations, the council announced that the Israel Jaiye Opayemi-led executive had been disbanded in line with legal provisions to reposition the association for better alignment with NIPR’s strategic objectives.
The council, during its 117th meeting held on December 19, 2024, conducted a comprehensive review of PRCAN’s operations and resolved to implement measures aimed at revitalizing the association.
As part of the changes, NIPR appointed Nkechi Ali-Balogun, a seasoned public relations professional and CEO of NECCI Consults, as Chairperson of the Council Committee on Revitalization of PRCAN. Ali-Balogun is mandated to oversee PRCAN’s activities and conduct free and fair elections no later than April 30, 2025.
The statement listed members of the newly inaugurated PRCAN Revitalization Committee, including, Barr. Karibi George, FNIPR, Dr. Ahmad Sajoh, FNIPR, Hajia Lami Tumaka, FNIPR, Mr. Chido Nwakanma, MNIPR, Mr. Hassan Abdul, MNIPR, Mr. Bolaji Okusaga, MNIPR, Mr. Adetola Odusote, MNIPR, Mr. Muyiwa Akintunde, ANIPR, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, ANIPR, Ms. Mojisola Saka, ANIPR anc Dr. Dare Ogunyombo, MNIPR who will serve as Member/Secretary.
In a letter addressed to Israel Opayemi, the immediate past president of PRCAN, dated December 21, 2024, NIPR expressed appreciation for his contributions and urged him to cooperate with the committee to ensure a seamless transition.
The statement noted, “This revitalization process is critical to positioning PRCAN as a key player in Nigeria’s public relations space under the supervision of the NIPR Council.”
Established under the NIPR Bye-law No. 3 of 1993, PRCAN is tasked with managing and coordinating the activities of public relations consultants in Nigeria. The ongoing revitalization process is aimed at strengthening its operations and restoring its relevance in line with NIPR’s broader strategic vision.
