January 28, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has alerted members of the public to the existence of a fake social media account impersonating its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed.
In a disclaimer issued on Wednesday, NISO disclosed that a Facebook account bearing the name “Abdu Bello” falsely claims to be associated with the MD/CEO, stressing that the account is neither authentic nor authorised.
The organisation stated that Engr. Mohammed does not operate, nor has he approved, any Facebook account for official communication or engagement on behalf of NISO, urging Nigerians to disregard any information, messages, or requests emanating from the said account.
NISO further advised the public to report the account immediately to Facebook and rely solely on its verified platforms for credible information, warning that fake accounts pose serious risks of misinformation and fraud.
The agency clarified that all its official communications are issued strictly through its verified handles on Facebook and LinkedIn under “Nigerian Independent System Operator,” Instagram via @officialniso_ng, and X (formerly Twitter) through @OFFICIALNISO_NG. It reaffirmed commitment to transparency, public trust, and responsible communication with stakeholders across the country.
