March 11, (THEWILL) – To enhance Navigational safety for all water users, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has laid water buoys from Gbajibo in Niger state to Gbajibo-Mundi in Kwara state.
In an official statement issued Tuesday, signed by Assistant General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Suleiman Makama, the Authority stated that the number of buoys used were 10 red and 6 green.
Noting that the river is generally deep, with the least depth of 21.3m, NIWA further added that they are taking this proactive step towards safeguarding the waterways.
“These buoys serve as critical markers, indicating safe Navigation channels, warning of hazards and designating protected areas”, the statement stated.
THEWILL recalls that during the 2025 Management retreat, the Managing Director/CEO, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB, emphasised on safety regulations and improved operational efficiency across the Nation’s Inland Waterways.
