May 08, (THEWILL) – The Biafra Nations League, a pro-Biafra group, which has its operational base in Bakassi Peninsula, has has threatened to shut down the Nigeria-Cameroon Maritime Border within fourteen days.
The group issued the threat in Calabar through its leader, Princewill Chimezie Richard.
The BNL hinged its threat on the continued detention of Nnamdi Kalu, despite the court orders for his release.
In addition, the group said the threat follows the refusal of the government to check proliferation of taxes on the Bakassi people by the Cameroonian authorities.
Issuing the demands, the BNL leader called for “The immediate release from detention of Nnamdi Kalu as ordered by the court within the next fourteen days.
“The immediate withdrawal of military troops in South East from now till fourteen days.
“The Cameroonian authority to desist from forcing and collecting proliferated taxes from the natives of Bakassi Peninsula.
“The immediate withdrawal of Cameroon forces from the peninsula within the next fourteen days”, the BNL leader demanded.
He warned that if the government failed to meet these demands, they will shut the maritime border and confiscate any ship that flouts the ban.
“Failure to meet these demands will result in the shutting down of oil exploration between Nigeria and Cameroon at the maritime borders.
“We shall also place a ban on vessels from entering our operational base to ensure that we stop the illicit exploration of oil in the region.
“Any vessel that contests this ban shall be intercepted and confiscated”, the BNL leader said.
