NNPP, PDP Lose Six Reps To ADC, APC

House of Representatives

April 22, (THEWILL) — Six members of the House of Representatives have defected from their respective political parties, with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) losing lawmakers to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A breakdown of the defections shows that four lawmakers from Kano State, elected on the platform of the NNPP, have moved to the ADC. They are Sani Wakili, representing Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency; Muktar Zakari of Tarauni Federal Constituency; Yusuf Datti, representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency; and Abdulhakeem Ado of Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency.

In a related development, two other lawmakers, including Chinedu Martins from Imo State and Kabiru Amodu from Zamfara State, have defected from the PDP to the APC.

The lawmakers attributed their decisions to internal divisions, leadership crises, and unresolved issues within their former parties, which they said necessitated their exit.

The defections add to the ongoing wave of political realignments within the National Assembly, as party dynamics continue to evolve ahead of future electoral contests.
