March 11, (THEWILL) – Amid efforts to douse political tension in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has again assured residents in the State and Nigerians in general, of his determination to implement fully, the recent Supreme Court judgement.
The apex court had, on February 28, upheld an order by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, which barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State. It further ordered the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly and other elected members of the House to forthwith resume sitting unhindered. This is as it invalidated the October 5 local government election in the State.
Speaking at the inauguration of the New Judges Quarters built by his administration in the Old GRA, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, Governor Fubara said no personal interest should take precedence over the collective good and peace of Rivers State.
Restating his commitment to a non-violent approach, the Governor said, “no price will be too much to pay to ensure peace” in Rivers State.
