January 08, (THEWILL) — The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun. In a statement issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, described the claims as false and misleading.
According to the statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s attention was drawn to reports on some online platforms and blogs insinuating a breakdown in the relationship between the two leaders.
Akosile stressed that the narrative being promoted does not reflect reality. “We wish to state clearly that this is not true. In fact, it is the direct opposite of the relationship that exists between the two leaders,” the statement said.
The Governor emphasized that he maintains a cordial and brotherly relationship with his Ogun State counterpart, adding that they meet regularly and consult frequently on matters of mutual interest.
The statement noted that the close working relationship between Sanwo-Olu and Abiodun is driven by the shared boundaries between Lagos and Ogun states, as well as the longstanding socio-cultural ties that bind the people of both states.
“The two brother-governors meet regularly and speak with each other frequently on matters of mutual interest for the development of their respective states,” Akosile noted.
The statement also cautioned individuals and platforms spreading the reports to desist from what it described as deliberate attempts to sow discord between the two leaders using “fake news.”
According to the statement, both governors remain united by a common vision of improving the welfare of their people and advancing development across Lagos and Ogun states.
The government reiterated that the bond between the two leaders remains strong and focused on making life more abundant for their respective residents.
