January 02, (THEWILL) — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ruled out any reconciliation with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declaring that the Governor has proven he lacks the capacity for effective leadership.
Wike’s comments come amid a definitive resumption of full-scale political maneuvering in the state following a brief, fragile truce.
Speaking on Friday, January 2, 2026, during a “thank you visit” to the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Wike addressed supporters under the banner of the “Renewed Hope Family.”
He argued that a leader unable to maintain a functional relationship with local government chairmen, the State House of Assembly, and other key stakeholders cannot successfully govern a state as complex as Rivers.
“There cannot be two captains in one ship,” Wike declared. “Whoever is assuring you that once you shout on your mandate everything will be fine is deceiving you.
Someone who cannot relate with local government chairmen, state assembly members, and other stakeholders cannot provide good leadership.”
The Minister specifically accused Fubara of failing to honor the secret peace agreements brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
He warned that “money cannot solve the problem the Governor has started,” dismissing the notion that the state’s financial resources—recently rumored to include a ₦600 billion reserve—would guarantee Fubara’s political survival or re-election.
The event also marked a significant shift in the local political landscape as Dr. Nname Ewor, the factional chairman of the PDP in Rivers previously loyal to Fubara, officially dissolved his faction into the pro-Wike Aaron Chukwemeka-led caretaker committee.
Ewor told the crowd that he left the Governor’s camp because Fubara “cannot be trusted” after failing to keep multiple mediated pacts.
