October 28, (THEWILL) — The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has vowed tough action against attempts to disrupt the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election through violence or intimidation.
Nuhu Ribadu also issued a stern warning that any attempt to disrupt the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election through violence, intimidation, or other unlawful acts will be met with a swift and decisive response from the Federal Government.
Speaking during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja, Ribadu reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that every citizen exercises their franchise in a peaceful and secure environment.
Represented by the Director of Internal Security in his office, the NSA noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had strengthened coordination among all security agencies ahead of the November 8 poll.
He said the government had put in place a comprehensive security architecture, combining intelligence sharing, surveillance, and proactive deployments to forestall any breach of peace before, during, and after the election.
“Let it be clear that any form of violence during the Anambra governorship election will be met with a strong and uncompromising response. We are fully prepared to protect the integrity of the process and the lives of every Nigerian involved”, Ribadu warned.
The NSA urged politicians and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and refrain from inflammatory actions or utterances capable of undermining public order, noting that the credibility of the democratic process depends on collective restraint and civic discipline.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, reaffirmed the commission’s readiness for the election, stating that all logistical arrangements have been finalised.
According to Amupitan, INEC plans to deploy more than 24,000 ad hoc personnel to 5,718 polling units across the state, while materials will be delivered under tight security to ensure transparency and accountability. He added that the commission has partnered with security agencies to guarantee the safety of officials, voters, and election materials, stressing that “there will be zero tolerance for voter intimidation, ballot snatching, or vote-buying.”
Security operatives from the police, army, civil defence, and other agencies are expected to be strategically deployed across the 21 local government areas of Anambra, with special attention to flashpoints identified in past elections.
