June 02, (THEWILL) – The Chief Jury of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation and a member of the Union Africa de Gymnastics (UAG), Mr Alexander Otasowie Erhumwunse, has condoled with the Kano State Sports Commission over the death 22 athletes.
The athletes were said to have been involved in a ghastly auto crash while they were returning home from the just concluded National Sports Festival, which was held in Ogun State.
The bus conveying about 30 athletes was said to have been involved in a crash about 50 kilometres from Kano after passing through Kaduna State, claiming the lives of 22 athletes.
The crash was said to have occurred at the Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
Erhumwunse, while expressing his heart felt condolences to Kano Sports Commission, families, government, and the entire people of the state, said that it was a sad experience that such young athletes with promising future ended their lives without fulfilling their dreams of becoming great athletes in life.
He also commiserated with the host Governor, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State over the death of the athletes, while thanking the governor for supporting the victims’ families with N31 million.
He said, “I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of athletes and officials of Kano State sports commission. My heart goes out to the government of Kano and the family of those who lost their loved ones during this difficult time…With deepest sympathy.”
