BEVERLY HILLS, October 11, (THEWILL) – A socio-political group in Bauchi, the Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) has condemned the decision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for scrapping the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.
Addressing newsmen on Sunday, NYAN spokesperson, Ukasha Hamza said the “role being played by the squad in checking the activities of criminals, especially on the highways, could not be waved aside.”
Hanza said what the squad needed was a reform to enable it operate in conformity with standard rules of engagement.
The group while condemning the dissolution of SARS described the action as “throwing away the bad water with the baby.”
NYAN lamented that security breaches, especially highway robbery and kidnapping, were on the increase. He said the disbandment of SARS would further compound security situation in the country.
