December 05, (THEWILL) – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on her historic election as Namibia’s first female president, describing her victory as a clear indication of the people’s trust and confidence in her leadership.
In a congratulatory message released on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former President praised the Namibian electorate for choosing a leader with the capacity to drive socio-economic progress in the country.
The letter, written while Obasanjo was on a visit to Burundi, expressed delight over the landmark victory, which he said would inspire confidence in women’s leadership globally.
“No doubt, the good people of Namibia have spoken and have decided to repose their trust and confidence in your leadership, particularly as the first female President of Namibia,” Obasanjo stated.
The former Nigerian leader urged Nandi-Ndaitwah to leverage her wealth of experience and resilience to address Namibia’s socio-economic challenges, pledging his confidence in her ability to deliver on her mandate.
“By this clear victory, Namibians have not only given you a mandate to lead with sound policies that will bring much socio-economic progress to the country, but they have also reaffirmed their faith in your leadership,” he noted.
The former president emphasised the importance of visionary leadership and called for policies that would uplift Namibia’s economy and enhance its global standing.
“I, therefore, wish you God’s guidance as you face, with vision and vigour, the challenges of lifting the nation to greater heights,” Obasanjo added.
Obasanjo also expressed optimism that Nandi-Ndaitwah’s presidency would foster stronger ties between Nigeria and Namibia, building on the historical bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
“It is my hope that your assumption of office as President of Namibia will witness a further strengthening of the existing fraternal relations between our two countries and peoples,” he concluded.
