October 27, (THEWILL) – Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, to assist the Owu community in Abeokuta, the state capital, on the agricultural business cooperative farming initiative set up by Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola.
The Co-operative farming was launched under the Olowu Hope Initiative to create agricultural estates in Awowo, where people, especially indigenous people of the community interested in agriculture including poultry, pig farming, fisheries, and vegetable farming to mention a few, can participate.
Obasanjo, who stated on Saturday, at the 2024 Odun Omo Olowu held at Ori-Omi, Abeokuta, appealed to Abiodun to accede to the letter the community sent to him seeking his support on the agric business cooperative farming
He maintained that the initiative would also go a long way to provide employment for youths and create jobs for entrepreneurs interested in agricultural businesses, noting that it would also help to reduce hunger and poverty among people in the country
“There is hunger in the country if we don’t help ourselves, It will be a bit difficult, this is the reason why the monarch Ọba Saka has embarked on some initiatives for us to see development in the Owu community. So that we won’t die of hunger. Governor, please help us. Be it farming, small businesses, these are parts of projects initiative Ọba Saka laid down for Owu community.” he stressed
Responding, Abiodun said he would accede to the letter, assuring that his administration has been supporting communities on such initiatives and the Owu community would not be left out.
He promised the former president that he would give necessary support to ensure the agricultural business cooperative farming in Owu community becomes a reality for the benefit of the indigene and the entire people of the state
“I want again for our Baba Obasanjo for different initiatives at different times, this agric cooperative that Baba talks about is indeed a very welcome development and this administration has thrown its full weight behind that project” Abiodun added.
Earlier, the Ọba Matemilola thanked Obasanjo and the governor as well as the indigene and other citizens of the state for attending the occasion.
