“One of the things that bothered me when you came into power was how you will complete and how your succession will be. But today, you have successfully laid that fear to rest. Success to me, is making a place better than you met it and you have made the whole of Akwa Ibom better than you met it.

“Success has another part, success without a good successor is not complete. I asked you about succession and what you told me is what I have seen: capacity, ability. I congratulate you and all the people of Akwa Ibom State”. Obasanjo stated.

He, however, congratulates the governor elect of the state, Pastor Umo Eno and the people of the state, expressing optimism that Udom Emmanuel’s legacy will be kept by his successor.

“Following a great leader is good. I am glad that Udom’s prayer for a good successor has been answered”, he prayed.

Commending Emmanuel for peaceful deposition and development in the state, the former President urged the people of the communities along the new road to take advantage of the development and improve on their economic activities adding that peace is basic for economic growth.

He also called on the governor, who will be exiting the office in May, to take a rest, but take time to prepare for higher service in the state, Nigeria and Africa, stressing that as a young man, his type is needed in the developing nation.

In his speech, governor Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the ex-president for always responding to his call to commission life touching projects in the state, saying that most projects that are still on cause would be completed and commissioned before the end of his administration even as others would be completed within the first few months of the next administration.

According to him, among the projects to be commissioned before May 29 are The smart terminal building of the Victor Attach International Airport, the second runway of the Airport and the Maintain Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility of the Airport.

He stressed that before his final exit on the 29th of May, he will touch all the local government areas of the state to commission projects.
