October 15, (THEWILL) — Southeast youths, under the aegis of Southeast Peaceful Youths Integration For Tinubu (SEPYIFT), have warned the people of the Southeast to be cautious about the planned October 20 nationwide protest announced by Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.
The leader of the group, Pastor Damian Onu, sounded the warning in Abakaliki while reacting to Sowore’s call for mass mobilisation ahead of the October 20 nationwide protest calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Onu, who expressed the fear that the protest was capable of causing insecurity in the southeast and grounding economic activities, noted that notable southeast leaders had adopted a better approach for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kalu.
SEPYIFT Leader said the people of the Southeast should not allow themselves to be deceived and misled by Omoyele Sowore to begin to hate their leaders, adding that Sowore did not love Nnamdi Kalu more than his own people.
He said, “There is an ulterior motive why Sowore is doing what he’s doing. He’s not doing it because he likes the Igbos.
“He’s not doing it because he likes Mazi Nnamdi Kalu. He cannot love one of our own more than us. He’s doing what he’s doing to score poor political scorecards, you know.
“But, he’s making a mistake because we are quite aware of the fact that the leaders, political leaders, we have, like Engineer David Nwaeze Uamhi, we have Senator Hope Uzodinma, we have all of them.
“They have been having meetings with Mr President on how to handle Mazi Nnamdi Kalu’s issue through a political approach”, he explained.
He pointed out the negative consequences of embarking on a nationwide protest, including insecurity and the grounding of economic activities in the region.
“Because if you go by the way of protest, you are complicating the issue. So, Sowore wants to complicate the issue, not only for Nnamdi Kalu, for the Igbos, because if we follow the way he’s thinking, maybe the Igbos will join to go to the streets, there will be insecurity in the southeast and economic activities will go down. But, I’m using this approach to tell Sowore, please stay clear, stay clear of Igbo matters”, he warned.
