SAN FRANCISCO, November 03, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Jennifer Oghenewaire and Felipe Cárdenas from Colombia have been appointed as (BAC) panel members.
The BAC is responsible for hearing athlete classification appeals in various Para sports across the Paralympic Movement. Every specific appeal sees three-panel members appointed from the pool.
These selected members serve as the hearing panel in the case, with the chair responsible for writing a full and reasoned judgement in each case.
The BAC is chaired independently by Dutchman Fred Jansen. The addition of Oghenewaire and Cárdenas takes the number of panel members to 16.
All BAC members have a range of expertise from law, medicine, science, classification and Para-sport, with the volunteer roles covering four-year terms.
Oghenewaire is a legal practitioner based in Lagos State, Nigeria. She trained in both mediation and arbitration. Born without right forelimbs and knowing first-hand the challenges that come with disability, the trailblazing arbitrator also runs a foundation called LIFE Beyond Disability.
The foundation aims to encourage people with disabilities to be active members of their communities and to see beyond their disabilities.
Cárdenas, on the other hand, is a Colombian lawyer specialising in sports, entertainment and corporate law.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sports Management and has worked assiduously for over a decade providing legal services for national and international clients involved in the sports and entertainment industry.
The current group of BAC members has been appointed until May 2024.
Panel members also include Alberto Predieri, David Sharpe, Susanne van Waert, Joe Walsh, Hassan Abdallah, Ross Ashcroft, Tiago Carvalho, and Chris Cohen.
Alan Dickson, Owain Rhys James, Barry Lysaght, Andrew Moroney, Bethan Mitchell and Chiara Perona complete the list of panel members.
