February 20, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State Chapter, has issued official guidelines for the conduct of the upcoming Local Government Congress scheduled for Saturday, 21st February 2026.
The party commended members for the peaceful and orderly conduct exhibited throughout the 236 wards of the state during the recently concluded Ward Congress.
In a statement signed by the APC Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani, yesterday and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the party noted that the successful exercise reflected the collective commitment to internal democracy and party discipline.
The statement reads: “Premised on the foregoing, the procedure for the forthcoming Local Government Congress shall align strictly with the agreements reached at the stakeholders’ meeting held on 16th February 2026, as approved by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, the Governor of Ogun State.”
The major guidelines that will govern the process include a comprehensive review of the existing Local Government Executive Committees to accommodate several considerations.
These include the replacement of deceased executives, the removal of inactive and docile members who have not contributed to party activities, and a review of members whose loyalty to the party is in question.
Additionally, the party will account for members with health challenges that may impede their performance and the replacement of those who have voluntarily withdrawn.
The guidelines further stipulate that political appointees and statutory office holders shall not be considered for executive positions unless they present valid letters of resignation.
The party clarified that only the newly constituted Ward Executive Committee members, along with the five elected delegates from each ward, shall constitute the electoral college for the purpose of the Local Government Congress.
It urged all members to adhere strictly to these guidelines and cooperate with the congress committees to ensure a peaceful and transparent exercise across the 20 local government areas of the state.
