August 20, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has suspended former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, over alleged misconduct and anti-party activities.
Daniel was suspended indefinitely alongside his ally, Kunle Folarin, after the party’s State Working Committee ratified the recommendations of disciplinary panels set up in their respective wards in Sagamu Local Government Area.
In a statement on Saturday, the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, said Daniel was investigated by a disciplinary committee in Ward 4, Sagamu, while Folarin faced a similar panel in Ward 6.
According to the statement, both men were invited to appear before their committees to defend themselves but failed to honour the invitations or submit any written response.
“The members under investigation failed to attend the disciplinary meetings where they were expected to present their defense.
“ Instead, reports indicated they harassed party members and pressured them to withdraw petitions against them,” the statement read in part.
The committees, after deliberations, resolved to suspend the duo indefinitely to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process.
Their decisions were forwarded to the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and subsequently ratified by the State Working Committee.
The APC said the action was necessary to enforce discipline and preserve the sanctity of its constitution.
