August 20, (THEWILL) — Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved the suspension of some public officials in line with resolutions passed by the State House of Assembly.
Those affected include the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper.
A statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, said the suspensions, which take effect from Wednesday, August 20, would last for one month.
Kula quoted Governor Alia as restating his commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principle of separation of powers.
The governor commended the Assembly for exercising its constitutional duties and assured the people that his administration remains focused on transparency, accountability, and good governance.
He urged the affected institutions to ensure continuity of service delivery during the suspension period and called on residents to support ongoing efforts to build a state that works for all.
It would be recalled that the SUBEB chairman had earlier clashed with the House Committee when she wrote to challenge its oversight powers.
Following committee reports, the Assembly recommended the suspension of Adagba, Ogiri, and Uper.
