May 27, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, urged the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to speed up action on the erection of electricity poles to affected communities in Yewa North Local Government Area of the State.
THEWILL recalls that some electric poles had been damaged in the communities by a Dangote haulage truck.
But, speaking on the floor of the Assembly Complex at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, a lawmaker representing Yewa North 1, State Constituency, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, called on IBEDC to accelerate work on fixing the poles since Dangote Cement Factory had supplied the electrical items to reinstall electricity to the affected communities.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, while responding, tasked IBEDC to swiftly embark on action to re-electrify the communities affected with the available electrification items supplied by Dangote Cement Factory.
Earlier in his presentation, Hon. Adeyanju stated that Dangote Cement, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has already provided the necessary materials for the project, leaving IBEDC to fulfil its part in restoring power to the communities.
He thanked the traditional rulers in the area, led by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and other interest groups, including the members of the National Youth Council in the area.
Also at the plenary, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide directed the House Committee to interface with the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to address concerns regarding the Imodi-Mosan roads, following a personal explanation presented by Hon. Olusegun Odunuga on the need to fix some roads in his constituency.
In the same vein, a member representing Ifo 2, State Constituency, Hon. Fola Salami, presented a petition on behalf of Oke-Aro/Akute/Asoore/Ajuwon area by officers and Baale from Akinosi Area Development Committee, Ifo Local Government Area, on the environmental degradation caused by the laying of water pipes for Lagos State by a civil engineering contractor- SALINI Nigeria Limited.
Meanwhile, the Assembly also observed a minute silence in honour of the late Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko, Oba John Olakunle Ojo, who passed on at the age of 82, following the presentation of a member representing Ipokia/ Idiroko, Hon. Adebisi Oyedele.
