February 26, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, effective Monday, March 24, 2025.
According to the government, the initiative aims to ensure sustainable road maintenance and enhance the smooth movement of goods and people along the strategic corridor.
The 14.7km expressway had long been in a deplorable state, posing risks to commuters before the intervention of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, which reconstructed it into a modern road with state-of-the-art facilities, including toll plazas.
Speaking on the development, the Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, explained that tolling was initially delayed despite the road’s Public-Private Partnership arrangement.
He attributed this to Governor Abiodun’s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on residents.
“The expressway is a critical economic link between Ogun State and Lagos, and its completion was a top priority for the government,” Oduwole stated.
He assured motorists that the road is now equipped with the necessary amenities to enhance travel comfort and safety.
“Governor Abiodun recognized the economic importance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway in boosting the microeconomy of Ogun State. The government adopted a PPP model for its management, including toll collection, but magnanimously delayed tolling since 2021 to provide relief to residents and other users,” he noted.
Oduwole further emphasized the need to strike a balance between public interest and investor returns, making the tolling operation necessary after nearly four years of free access.
“To ensure fairness, some categories of vehicles will be exempted from toll payments, including emergency response vehicles such as ambulances, fire service, and patrol vehicles, as well as government-owned security and official vehicles,” he said.
The government urged all road users to adhere to the tolling regulations, warning that enforcement measures would be strictly implemented without exceptions.
