December 01, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State Government has commenced a specialised training programme for automotive artisans across its three senatorial districts, focusing on modern techniques in automotive mechatronics and Compressed Natural Gas conversion.
The initiative, in partnership with the World Bank-funded Ogun State Economic Transformation Project, aims to enhance the skills and capacity of artisans in the state’s automotive industry.
The first phase of the programme has enrolled 40 participants, selected from mechanic clusters across the state.
At a practical session held in Abeokuta, the OGSTEP Skills Sector Project Manager, Fatai Osunsanya, said the training, which began three months ago, seeks to modernise traditional apprenticeship systems and improve artisans’ technical knowledge.
“The training covers key areas such as auto-mechatronics, auto-electrical systems, CNG conversion, digital literacy, adult literacy, and health and safety practices,” Osunsanya noted.
He explained that the CNG component includes the design and installation of CNG fuel systems in compliance with safety standards, offering an alternative to petrol-powered vehicles.
Lead Facilitator, Mr. Osokoya Babatunde, highlighted that the programme is not intended to phase out petrol but to provide a viable alternative for vehicle fuel systems.
He urged participants to apply their new skills to improve their trade and contribute to a sustainable automotive ecosystem.
Two trainees, Mr. Haruna Akinfenwa from Abeokuta South Local Government and Mr. Sulaimon Oyekanmi from Sagamu Local Government, expressed gratitude on behalf of the group.
They commended the government and organisers for the opportunity, pledging to transfer the knowledge to others in their respective clusters.
The initiative underscores the Ogun State Government’s commitment to fostering innovation and economic development through skill acquisition and capacity building in critical sectors.
