December 11, (THEWILL) — The Chairman of the Miebi Ogunu 50 impactful years of grassroots sports development anniversary planning committee, Barr. Uroh Omiekumo Kiani, has commended the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and stakeholders for the massive support extended to his committee.

‎Kiani gave the commendation at the Fortress, a state-of-the-art sports facility in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, shortly after the table tennis event, to wrap up ‎day three of the anniversary celebration.

‎He noted that he was elated by the support from stakeholders in the state and from the crowd that participated in the ‎awareness walk, which started from the Motor Park at Ekeki and terminated at the Samson Siasia Stadium, pointing out that it was indicative of their love for Chief Ogunu and the general acceptance of the programme.

‎Kiani hinted that the anniversary lecture would come on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre, Ekeki in Yenagoa at 10.00am, maintaining that the lecture would be rich and incisive, and called on critical stakeholders in the State to attend.

‎He hailed the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Bayelsa State Chapter for the publicity for the programme, stating that the anniversary would not have received the attention it is getting if not for the support from the sports writers in the State.

‎Barr. Kiani equally appreciated the partners, team Nun Atlantic Coalition for Douye Diri; Samkay Athletics Club; Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association (BYSTTA); Women in Sports; Mrs Grace Alagoa, immediate past Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports Development; Prof Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government; Commissioner for Health, Prof Seyeifa Brisibe; United Front For Douye Diri, UFDD and the Bayelsa State Government ‎amongst other sponsors.

‎Earlier, the anniversary witnessed some display of track and field events at the Samson Siasia Stadium, novelty football match at the Bishop Dimeari Grammar School, BDGS pitch between Kpansia Allstars and Royal Allstars, while the second match saw two youthful sides, Musampa FA and Bayelsa Stars FA, as well as Table Tennis tie at the Fortress.

‎The organisers equally presented a tracksuit and T-shirts to two of its sponsors, Dr Kola Oredipe, the founder of Samkay Athletics Club and Ama-ebi Ebikpolade Stow, Technical Adviser to the governor on Sports (Table Tennis), who doubles as the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association
