March 02, (THEWILL) – The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has distanced itself from reports suggesting that it urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The reports emerged following the Supreme Court’s ruling, which upheld an earlier judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja restraining the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State. A faction of Ohanaeze, in a statement signed by its Deputy President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chinenyeze Ohia, was said to have called on pro-Wike lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule to begin impeachment proceedings against the governor.
However, speaking with The WILL on Saturday, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, dismissed the claims, insisting that the organisation had no position on the matter.
“That statement didn’t come from us. We have no knowledge of it, no stance on the issue, and nothing to say about it,” Chukwu said.
He urged the public and the media to verify their sources before attributing statements to Ohanaeze, cautioning against misinformation.
