May 04, (THEWILL) – The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, as the political leader of the Southeast, rating his performance above that of other prominent figures such as former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.
In a statement issued Friday in Abakaliki and jointly signed by the Deputy President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the National Spokesman, Chief Thompson Ohia, the group described Umahi’s leadership as unmatched and his contributions to the Southeast as instrumental to the region’s infrastructural and economic transformation.
The statement read: “This declaration aligns with the vision and leadership of our newly appointed Igbo National Political Leader and Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.
“Our rigorous evaluation over the past decade examined the input of key political figures to the Southeast’s economic growth, infrastructure development, and political relevance at the national level.
“The findings clearly establish Senator Umahi as the foremost leader, particularly when contrasted with Mr. Peter Obi and Governor Hope Uzodinma.”
Ohanaeze said Umahi’s record as former Governor of Ebonyi State, former Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum, and current Minister of Works, positions him as a transformative figure whose legacy stands out.
“From 2015 to 2023, Umahi led a remarkable transformation of Ebonyi State, turning it from one of Nigeria’s least developed into a hub of modern infrastructure and improved human capital. His administration also repositioned the state as a critical centre for agriculture and food production,” the statement added.
While acknowledging the contributions of Obi and Uzodinma to their respective states, Ohanaeze maintained that Umahi’s impact has been more profound and far-reaching.
“As President Bola Tinubu approaches the two-year mark of his administration by May 29, 2025, Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirms that Senator Dave Umahi remains the most credible political voice of the Southeast. He is empowered with the mandate to galvanise the region’s support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” the group said.
