November 27, (THEWILL) – Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has called on Igbo residents in Lagos, to come back home and relocate their investments immediately in the face of the ongoing demolition exercises in Lagos State.
The call was contained in a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.
According to him, Ohanaeze is interested in the security of the lives and properties of Ndigbo, adding that arrangements will be made to facilitate the relocation.
“In light of the ongoing demolition exercises in Lagos that have affected properties owned by a majority of Igbo residents, Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledges the bitter lessons that should have been learned, from the refusal of some Igbos to heed the forewarnings of our legendary icon, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
“It is regrettable that the refusal of certain Igbos in Lagos to listen to Ojukwu’s warnings has led to a perception that Igbos are the architects of their misfortunes in this current situation. However, Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasises that this is an opportunity for self-reflection and redress of past mistakes to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
“Investigations and intelligent reports available to us, have revealed that the loss of investments and properties to the Lagos government and legislators was foreseen by Ojukwu. His prophetic words serve as a reminder that the days of reckoning would come, urging Igbos to relocate their investments back to their homeland.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as a representative body of the Igbo people, must spill the bitter truth that we will not engage in a fight against Governor Sanwu-Olu and the Lagos government, over the ongoing demolition. Instead, we encourage Igbos to view this adversity as an opportunity to rectify obvious mistakes made and safeguard their investments for the future.
“We call upon all Igbos residing in Lagos to seriously consider relocating their investments back home immediately. Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands ready to support and facilitate this transition, ensuring the preservation of our people’s assets and prosperity”, he stated.
