January 28, (THEWILL) — The Ojora royal family of Lagos has announced the passing of its patriarch, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, a legendary boardroom figure and the Olori Omo Oba of Lagos, who died in the early hours of Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was 93.
In a statement released on behalf of the family by his daughter, Mrs. Toyin Ojora-Saraki—the wife of former Senate President Bukola Saraki—the family noted that the elder statesman passed away at his Ikoyi residence in full submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (SWT), the Ojora family of Lagos hereby announces the passing of our beloved patriarch, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, the Otunba of Lagos and Lisa of Ife, who returned to his creator early this morning,” the statement read.
“We say Alhamdulilahi for a life well lived, and we comply with Allah’s words: ‘Surely, to Allah we belong, and to Him we will all return.’”
The late Otunba Ojora was a towering figure in Nigeria’s post-independence corporate and traditional landscape.
Born on June 13, 1932, his career began in journalism at the BBC in London in the early 1950s before he returned to Nigeria to join the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).
He later transitioned into the corporate world, serving as the chairman of Agip Nigeria Limited for over 30 years and holding board positions in numerous blue-chip companies.
Beyond his corporate exploits, he was deeply rooted in the traditional institutions of Lagos and Yorubaland, holding prestigious titles including the Lisa of Ife and Head of the Ojora Royal Family.
The family confirmed that Otunba Ojora will be buried in Lagos in accordance with Islamic rites, with further burial arrangements to be shared in due course.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, as well as several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
