February 26, (THEWILL) — In a spectacular homecoming honoring her Itsekiri maternal roots, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was on Thursday conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Utukpa-Oritse of the Warri Kingdom by His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
The ceremony, held at the Warri Palace, featured a grand reception for the First Lady, who was accompanied by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
Sons and daughters of the Warri Kingdom turned out in large numbers to welcome the distinguished visitors with traditional fanfare, drumming, and cultural displays.
The title, also known as Ugbọnẹ́, recognizes First Lady Tinubu’s notable contributions to public service and her deep connection to the Warri Kingdom through her Itsekiri heritage.
The conferment reflects both honor and a celebration of her cultural lineage.
Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Tinubu described the honour as a “source of immense pride and a deeper connection to my roots.” She also thanked the Ooni of Ife for accompanying her, highlighting the unity and shared cultural bonds among Nigeria’s diverse communities.
