August 18, (THEWILL) — The Special Task Force, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has handed over a cache of recovered weapons to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
The handover, which took place on Sunday at the OPSH Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, was presided over by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of OPSH, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.
The recovered arms included 84 Dane guns, 66 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 27 AK-47 rifles, eight locally made AK-47 rifles, several pistols, shotguns, mortars, and over 1,800 rounds of assorted ammunition.
Major General Oyinlola said the exercise reflected the Federal Government’s resolve to combat insecurity and halt the proliferation of illegal arms across communities.
He urged the public to support ongoing operations, noting that OPSH had achieved significant successes through both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
Receiving the arms on behalf of the Director-General of NCCSALW, Deputy Director-General Abdul Adamu commended OPSH for disrupting armed criminal networks.
He restated the Centre’s commitment to work with security agencies in mopping up illicit weapons, stressing that citizen support remained crucial to achieving lasting peace and stability.
“The Federal Government, through the establishment of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in 2021, is determined to end the proliferation of illicit arms that continues to drive insecurity in the country,” Adamu said.
