June 30, (THEWILL) – Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom, has challenged the people of Idoma land, to support the new Och’idoma, His Royal Majesty, Agaba-Idu, Pastor Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, to succeed in office.

The Governor, who also presented the staff of office to the paramount ruler at the headquarter of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue state, noted that under his watch, the traditional institution has made tremendous progress.

He said the traditional institution in the state under his administration has made tremendous progress, as the welfare of traditional rulers has been given top priority.

“Your Royal Majesty, your selection by the selection committee as the 5th Och’idoma has undoubtedly brought joy to the people of Idoma nation. I have no doubt that your reign will be peaceful”.

Governor Ortom expressed conviction that the support the paramount ruler was enjoying from your subjects will be sustained, noting that together he can make Idoma nation better than how he met it.

“It is, therefore, a great joy to be here to perform the coronation of the Och’idoma and also present a staff of office to you. It is my hope that, before long, we shall gather once again to commission a befitting palace for the Och’idoma, which is about 90 percent completed.”

Governor Ortom stated that the new Och’idoma emerged through Divine providence, charged him to rule wisely, so as to attract development to his domain.

In his acceptance speech, the Agaba-Idu, HRM, Elaigwu Odogbo John, pledged fairness, equity, justice and peace, would be his watchword.

While dedicating the Idoma nation to God, the paramount ruler, also pronounced peace upon Idomaland and called on his subjects to be orderly and support policies that would bring peace to the domain.

Earlier, the chairman of the central planning committee, who is also the Commissioner for Urban and Housing Development, Mr Ekpe Ogbu, commended all that have made the event a success.

People from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, politicians, religious and other stakeholders, witnessed the coronation.
