April 27, (THEWILL) — Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen opened the scoring to put Galatasaray on course for a 3-0 derby victory over Fenerbahce at RAMS Park on Sunday, a result that moves them closer to the Turkish Super Lig title.
Fenerbahce were presented with an opportunity to take the lead in the 11th minute when Davinson Sanchez brought down Sidiki Cherif and a penalty was awarded, but Talisca dragged his spot-kick just wide of the post.
Galatasaray controlled possession thereafter and broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time, with Osimhen meeting a flick from Mario Lemina and lifting the ball over goalkeeper Ederson with his thigh.
Torreira’s low strike appeared to double the score for the hosts in the 57th minute, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
Five minutes later, Ederson was dismissed after receiving his second yellow card for dissent, the final caution coming moments after Jayden Oosterwolde had fouled Yunus Akgun inside the penalty area.
Baris Alper Yilmaz converted the resulting spot-kick on 67 minutes to double Galatasaray’s advantage.
Torreira then settled the contest with seven minutes remaining, volleying a loose ball into the net after substitute goalkeeper Mert Gunok had failed to hold a corner following contact with one of his own defenders.
Fenerbahce’s defeat was compounded by their earlier wastefulness from the spot, with Talisca’s miss proving costly against a Galatasaray side that grew increasingly dominant once their opponents were reduced to 10 men.
