Osun 2026: Adeleke Declared Sole Governorship Candidate of Accord Party

Ademola Adeleke

December 10, (THEWILL) — The Accord Party in Osun State has formally declared Governor Ademola Adeleke as its sole governorship candidate for the August 8, 2026, election.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Akande, who spoke with journalists in Osogbo ahead of the party’s primary. He confirmed that Adeleke, who recently defected to the Accord Party, remains the only aspirant for the party’s ticket.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke is our sole candidate for the 2026 governorship election. We are declaring him today. As you know, he formally defected to our party in November and we publicly announced him on Tuesday,” Akande said.

He added that about 150 delegates, drawn from the state’s 30 local government areas at five delegates per council, are expected to participate in the primary, which is being held in Osogbo.

The development follows Adeleke’s public defection to the Accord Party and his declaration to seek a second term in office.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, the governor said he joined the Accord Party on November 6 after weeks of consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders across the state.

Adeleke told party members and supporters that his decision to move to the Accord Party was driven by the need to sustain stability and ensure continuity in delivering good governance to the people of Osun State.

With no other aspirants in the race, Adeleke is expected to emerge unopposed as the Accord Party’s standard bearer, setting the stage for the 2026 governorship contest.
