March 12, (THEWILL)- The Oyo State Government has banned the use of styrofoam for food packaging, service and other related usage in the state.

 The ban was announced during the Food Safety Stakeholders Forum, at the government secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

This is coming a few months after the product was banned in Lagos State for environmental infractions.

Meanwhile, in strict compliance with the order, Oyo Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, has inaugurated a Food Safety Compliance Enforcement Task Force.

The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Ministry of Health, Akintunde Ayinde, emphasised the need for people to adhere strictly to food standards to save lives in the state.
