November 04, (THEWILL) – Lagosians were on Thursday thrown into panic as police officers clashed with operators of a commercial tricycle otherwise known as Keke Napep in the Meiran area of the State.

An eyewitness said the fracas started after a tricycle operator was shot dead for refusing to give  “N100 bribe” to an officer.

According to unconfirmed reports,  tension has enveloped the area as several gunshots rented the air just as commercial tricyclists gathered and became irate, condemning the killing and calling for justice.

As of the time of filing this report, it’s unclear if normalcy has been returned to the area.

But the  State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident, said,  “The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has dispatched adequate police patrol teams to maintain law and order there. No cause for alarm. Details soon.”
