May 31, (THEWILL) – There were panic amongst air passengers in the United Nigeria Airlines aircraft which skid off the runway 18L at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 in Lagos, Wednesday afternoon.
THEWILL gathered that the aircraft, 5N-BWW, with 50 passengers on board, was flying in from the Abakaliki Airport in Ebonyi state, when the incident happened.
The aircraft landed safely, but was forced to terminate its movement to the apron off the runway.
At last, all passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival hall alongside their luggage.
Officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), moved in swiftly at the scene of the incident alongside UNA engineers, who made arrangements to move the aircraft to the hangar.
According to the airline, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSOB), have also been informed.
Both aviation agencies, it was learnt, also moved to the scene of the incident.
United Nigeria Airlines has assured its passengers, that it is collaborating fully with the authorities.
“United Nigeria wants to reassure the public that it maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritise passenger safety at all times”, the carrier stated in an official statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, Mr Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu.
