November 20, (THEWILL) — Passengers and crew aboard an aircraft with registration number 5N-BZN escaped unhurt on Thursday after the plane suffered a nose-wheel fault while landing at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
In a statement signed by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the incident occurred at about 19:10 hrs.
The aircraft, which was flying in from Lagos, experienced a malfunction in its nose-landing gear upon touchdown on Runway 08, leaving it immobile on the runway.
FAAN noted that its emergency response teams were immediately activated and promptly deployed to secure the aircraft and ensure passenger safety.
Fire tenders, medical personnel, and rescue officials were mobilised in line with established safety protocols.
All passengers and crew were safely disembarked and transported to the terminal via apron buses. The evacuation, which proceeded smoothly, was completed at 19:48 hrs.
The authority added that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) remained fully mobilised throughout the operation, securing the aircraft and the airside until the situation was brought under control.
Reassuring the public, FAAN emphasised that the safety of passengers, crew, and all airport users remains its top priority, adding that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
