December 17, (THEWILL) — The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the party has entered a new era of unity, pledging its full backing for the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The announcement was made at a meeting held Wednesday in Abuja, where the BoT resolved that the period of internal discord within the party was over. Members and supporters nationwide were urged to collaborate with the new NWC to strengthen party structures and ensure stability.
Speaking at the meeting, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara congratulated the party on the successful conduct of its National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, describing it as a demonstration of PDP’s enduring commitment to internal democracy and transparency.
Wabara said the early days of the Turaki-led NWC indicate clear signs of repositioning, renewed confidence, and strengthened structures across the federation.
“From the early days of their tenure, it appears our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is being restored across the federation. These are giant strides that give hope not just to party members, but to millions of Nigerians who see the PDP as a credible alternative,” he said.
The BoT chairman also stressed the need for unity and reconciliation within the party, urging all aggrieved members to embrace healing in the interest of the PDP’s future.
“As we celebrate progress, we must also embrace unity. This is a moment that calls for reconciliation and healing,” Wabara added.
In his remarks, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki thanked the BoT for their support and participation in the November 15–16, 2025 National Convention in Ibadan.
Acknowledging past internal challenges, Turaki assured that the new leadership is committed to peace, reconciliation, and inclusiveness as core principles of its administration.
“We have faced many ups and downs. We fought ourselves and others fought us, both from within and outside. Now, it is time for peace. Reconciliation will be a cardinal principle of our leadership,” he said.
Turaki urged party members, support groups, and stakeholders to embrace the new direction and work collaboratively to rebuild trust, unity, and progress within the party.
“We believe there is no dispute, disagreement, or misunderstanding that is irreconcilable if there is a common objective and will,” he added.
The meeting was attended by prominent BoT members, including former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana, former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, and former Enugu State Governor Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, among others.
