May 06, (THEWILL) — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, escalated tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), issuing stern warnings against the Tanimu Turaki-led caretaker National Working Committee, while also accusing Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of neglecting governance responsibilities in pursuit of re-election.
Speaking during his monthly media chat with journalists in Abuja, Wike warned that any bank that facilitates the opening of accounts for the sale of PDP nomination forms by the Turaki-led group would face unspecified consequences. He also threatened enforcement action against any property in Abuja being used as an alternative headquarters of the faction.
“I dare them, let me see an office you will name PDP national secretariat… If you are saying that you want to sell form, to who? You will submit it where? Is that not fraud?” Wike said, insisting that such actions amounted to deception and illegality.
He maintained that the legitimate national secretariat of the PDP remains at Wadata House, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, warning Nigerians against what he described as attempts to mislead the public through parallel party structures.
Wike further dismissed the caretaker committee announced by the Turaki-led bloc, insisting that there is no leadership vacuum in the party. According to him, the PDP’s recognised national leadership emerged from its convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, which he said was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meanwhile, the Turaki-led faction, supported by key figures within the party, including governors and former ministers, has insisted that its actions are constitutional, citing a Supreme Court judgment and alleging that a leadership vacuum exists within the party following the nullification of the Ibadan convention.
In a related development, Wike also turned attention to Rivers State politics, accusing Governor Fubara of prioritising political ambition over governance responsibilities.
“The Governor is yet to submit his budget to the House of Assembly, but he is busy running for a second term ambition”, Wike said, faulting what he described as a delay in the 2026 appropriation process.
He warned that failure to present the budget on time could disrupt governance, delay project implementation, and affect service delivery across the state.
The FCT Minister urged political leaders to prioritise constitutional responsibilities over personal ambition, stressing that effective governance depends on adherence to due process and institutional discipline.
