January 05, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged assassination attempt on Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Senator Usman had revealed the incident on his Facebook page on January 1, 2025, sparking outrage among his supporters and political allies.
The PDP Supporters Group in the Northwest described the attack as a direct assault on democracy.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its spokesperson, Engr. Sanusi Sarki, condemned the incident, calling it “a political permutation taken too far.”
“This attempt to eliminate Senator Usman is a calculated move to undermine democracy. He is a pivotal political figure in Kaduna who has significantly impacted his constituents. His achievements and growing popularity have clearly unsettled certain elements who will go to any length to tarnish or terminate his life,” Sarki said.
The group urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to prioritizethe investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We demand a swift and thorough investigation to uncover the masterminds of this heinous act. Democracy cannot thrive under such threats, and those responsible must face the full wrath of the law,” Sarki added.
Sarki also advised political representatives to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of personal security while carrying out their duties.
“We urge political leaders to take their safety seriously. The security agencies must ensure that incidents like this do not recur, as they pose a significant threat to the stability of our democracy,” he stated.
The group further called on the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to mandate an internal party investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need to protect the senator and other party leaders from similar threats.
“This brazen attack on one of our most active and popular senators in Kaduna must not be swept under the carpet. We expect the party leadership to take decisive action to expose those behind this plan and their ulterior motives,” Sarki concluded.
The PDP supporters reiterated their commitment to safeguarding democratic values and urged all stakeholders to stand against any form of political violence.
