January 06, (THEWILL) – TThe Peoples Democratic Party has expressed confidence in its ability to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections, citing widespread economic hardship under the APC-led administration.
During a visit to Governor Douye Diri in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Sunday, the PDP’s National Working Committee emphasised that Nigerians were disillusioned with the APC and eager for the PDP’s return.
Speaking on behalf of the NWC, the party’s National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, said, “Nothing stops the PDP from producing the president and vice president in 2027. The cries of hunger and poverty across the nation are overwhelming.
“Nigerians are yearning for the PDP’s return, and the APC cannot even campaign without risking public backlash. If we fail to reclaim leadership in 2027, it may mark the end of democracy in Nigeria.”
Yayare urged party governors and stakeholders to unite, stressing that the PDP remains the only viable opposition capable of steering Nigeria out of its current challenges.
He assured that the NWC would intensify efforts to strengthen the party’s presence in states controlled by the PDP.
The visit also served as a condolence mission to Diri over the recent losses of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Moses Jituboh and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.
PDP National Secretary Ude Okoye reiterated the party’s commitment to presenting itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
He commended the governor for his developmental achievements and urged party members to prioritize unity and collaboration.
In his response, Governor Diri underscored the importance of solidarity within the PDP, warning against internal divisions.
“As governors, we must work closely and resolve issues through consensus. If the PDP fails under our watch, history will not forgive us,” Diri said, adding that personal ambitions should not supersede the collective interest of the party.
