December 03, (THEWILL) — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, formally issued certificates of expulsion to several prominent members, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, marking one of the party’s biggest disciplinary actions in recent years.
The expulsion, ratified at the PDP National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, followed unanimous approval of motions citing gross misconduct, anti-party activities, sabotage, and alleged collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during critical electoral contests. The decision was sealed after a three-hour session of the National Working Committee (NWC), which later presented the certificates to the media in Abuja.
Those affected include former National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; former lawmaker, Mao Ohuabunwa; Dan Orbih; former Imo PDP Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu; former Abia PDP Chairman, Amah Nnanna Abraham; and Turnah George.
According to the NWC, the individuals repeatedly engaged in conduct that weakened the party’s cohesion, including holding parallel congresses, sponsoring internal litigations, and openly canvassing support for rival parties. Party leaders said these actions undermined the PDP’s organisational structure and contributed to electoral setbacks.
Addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat, PDP National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, said the expulsions were part of a broader effort to restore discipline and rebuild the party’s integrity ahead of future elections.
“These actions were necessary to cleanse our ranks of elements who have consistently worked against the PDP’s interests”, he said.
Turaki added that the expelled members are now free to associate with any political platform of their choice, but can no longer lay claim to PDP membership. He noted that the party would continue to enforce discipline to protect its internal democracy and ensure loyalty among its leaders and supporters.
