June 27, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted key political stakeholders from Rivers State in a high-level closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of efforts to end the prolonged political crisis rocking the oil-rich state.
THEWILL reports that those present at the meeting included Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers.
The meeting is believed to have marked a significant step toward reconciliation and stability, offering a potential turning point in the nearly two-year-long political standoff that has destabilised governance in the state.
Sources familiar with the discussions revealed that the talks focused on resolving leadership disputes, mending fractured relationships, and restoring normalcy in governance across Rivers State.

Although no official statement was issued by either the Presidency or any of the stakeholders at the time of filing this report, post-meeting visuals shared by the Presidency showed a new atmosphere of cordiality and unity.
In the images, President Tinubu was seen smiling as he stood between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, while lawmakers previously at odds exchanged handshakes and posed for group photographs — a stark contrast to the acrimony that had previously defined the political scene.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu had intervened in March by declaring a political emergency in Rivers State due to the escalating feud between the governor and the state assembly, which had led to legislative impasse, violent protests, and a breakdown in public order.
Citing Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, the President at the time suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly to prevent further deterioration of law and order.
Thursday’s meeting signals renewed hopes for reconciliation and a return to stable governance, though details of the agreements reached remain under wraps.
