December 21, (THEWILL) – Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited has distributed free food items to over fifty host communities in Bayelsa State.
The company is responsible for the security and surveillance of the Trans-Niger Pipeline and aims to foster a positive relationship with the local community to enhance ongoing efforts against illegal bunkering activities in its operational areas.
Recently, the company distributed various items, including bags of rice, garri, packets of noodles, peanuts and mattresses. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support community development.
According to Akpos Mesie, the PINL Community Relations Consultant, “We have lined up specific CSR programs, including medical outreach and skill acquisition initiatives, but this distribution of palliatives is a way to show our appreciation to the communities for their support in combating pipeline vandalism.”
Our operations span four states: Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, and Rivers State and this program will be replicated in the other states as well. “Our activities have successfully reduced pipeline vandalism, as evidenced by the increase in crude oil production. Looking ahead, we intend to continue this relationship to enhance our performance”, Meze added.
Deborah Okunbo, a consultant from Learn and Lead Wise Consult and the lead facilitator of the project, encouraged the youth in the host communities to collaborate with PINL. She stated, “The company asked us to reach out to the communities to determine their needs before initiating their CSR programs. We engaged with the communities and gathered their feedback and that’s why we are here for this project today. PINL recognises the importance of community involvement in peacebuilding and I urge them to support efforts against crude oil theft, kpo fire, and illegal oil bunkering.”
The beneficiary communities expressed their gratitude for the company’s generous gesture. Seimo Perempbowei, the Paramount Ruler of the Obuna community, remarked, “We are very appreciative of PINL’s efforts. Today’s actions have made us happy and we will continue to support and protect the pipelines.”
Afa Joseph, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Imiringi community assured that the gesture would not be taken for granted. “We pray that God continues to guide and protect them and grants them more opportunities. Our relationship with the community is akin to a father-and-son dynamic; it is very cordial as we are treated as partners.”
Some of the beneficiary communities include Okaka, Oruma, Obuna, Ayama, Imiringi, Etegwe and many others across the state.
